Some weeks are certainly more exciting than others, and as the RPG industry takes a collective (if brief) sigh of relief in the wake of another exciting GEN CON, it’s hard to blame anyone for the lack of news or updates.
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, right?
But since there’s not a lot to report in the wider world of Warhammer RPG’s, I’m happy to share some updates on things here at the Wordforge.
The first Warhammer RPG Roundup- back then known as the RPG Sitrep- debuted this past April, intended as a companion piece to Black Library Weekly which has been running every Monday now for about a year and a half1. This was the opening phase of my aim to expand the Substack to cover both Black Library fiction as well as Warhammer role-playing game content.
Phase Two sees the introduction of reviews of RPG content, and that threshold was crossed recently with our recent look at the Arbites-themed Lex Imperialis supplement from Cubicle 7 Games, intended for play with the Wrath & Glory system. That was the first of what I’d like to have as a regular feature here on the site.
The third phase is one I’m especially excited about, as it’s something I’ve been keen to do for a long time: the sharing of new, (unofficial) content for Warhammer RPG’s. I’ve long marveled at just how much incredible content Games Workshop develops, the overwhelming share of which never comes anywhere near the RPG table.
For other examples of some of the content I have in mind for the series, check out this piece I wrote for Tabletop Battles. Lore & More: The Nachmund Gauntlet Crusade Deep Dive examines the Crusade narrative tabletop wargame supplement through the lens of RPG adventure sourcebooks, full of lore summaries and setting-agnostic adventure hooks.
Or here, where I looked to adapt Shield of Baal’s Deathstorm, the Black Library novella from Josh Reynolds that pits Blood Angels against Tyranids.
I can’t wait to get started, and this upcoming series I’m calling RPG Conversions will debut tomorrow with a little something for all you Soulbound GM’s out there.
So maybe not such a slow news week after all?

Bookwriters get their New York Times bestseller lists, so why shouldn’t we enjoy the same thing? While we don’t have any aggregated sales lists, we can use DriveThruRPG’s top-seller list as a reasonable barometer- and here’s this week’s snapshot!

The same seven books are holding it down pretty well lately in the Top 200, and didn’t give a lot of ground easily! Indeed, the two Core Rulebooks for Cubicle 7’s Warhammer 40K RPG’s both managed to claw their way up the ladder a little. This makes two consecutive weeks of ascent for Wrath & Glory, and long way it last!
In the wake of Paizo’s move this week onto the platform, it’s little surprise that Pathfinder/Starfinder titles immediately started to make their presence known. It remains to be seen what further impact the move will have on the Top 200, but we’ll find out this time next week!
ICYMI
Cubicle 7 Games posted a teaser piece this morning for the Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 5th Edition. It doesn’t break any new ground other than to just remind us that it’s going to be out this Summer, and with the season a little more than half over it shouldn’t be much longer!
Awesome Lies dropped a new review this week, taking a look at one of their more beloved releases, Salzenmund: City of Salt and Silver, “something truly first-rate.”
If, like me, you see the Arcane Journals as terrific grist for the RPG idea mill, Miniature Realms has a review of the newest, The March of Chaos.
Not specifically Warhammer, but one piece I found very interesting on RPG Substack this week was this one by Baron De Ropp, Publishing Your Homebrew is Easier than you Think.
